The Arctic Tern

A shot from the top of the mast looking down at the Arctic Tern. We were on this 47-foot beauty of a sailboat for a week shooting icebergs, Inuit hunting camps, and jaw-dropping landscapes in Nunavut.

Pond Inlet, Nunavut

We’re about to set sail with Oceans North and two teenaged Inuit girls who are learning the ropes on cameras. This trip is all about f-stops, stories, 24-hour-daylight, narwhal, sea ice, and a who knows what next.

WE’RE GOIN’ BACK

57,000 beluga whales, polar bears, a million mosquitos, and an ancient Thule settlement.

Hubbard Point (Qjikiqtaarjuit) is 90kms south of the Nunavut-Manitoba border. It’s thought to be the only Thule site along the Manitoba coast of Hudson Bay.

It’s a stunning part of the world – a place where thousands of beluga whales swim the waters and fill the neighboring estuaries on their annual migratory trek. There are polar bear sightings daily, mesmerizing horizons, along with rugged coastline that follows throughout.

Wookey & Build

Summer 2014 marked our first time working on a full-length doc as well as our first collaboration with another film company.

Build and Wookey Films joined forces to work on a piece about food security on reserves in Northern Manitoba.

The people are friendly, and the food is delicious. Wild duck, seagull eggs, caribou tongue, ribs, roast, and oh yeah, we were lucky enough to have our host take us fishing for Lake Trout too.
